Boris Lekar (1932, Kharkiv – 2010, Jerusalem) is a painter and architect. In 1956 he finished studies at the Department of Architecture of Kharkiv Engineer Constructional Institute. He moved to Kyiv in 1959. After working for some time as an architect, Boris had left this profession and became a painter. Boris Lekar worked in the field of painting (water color, oil, tempera, mixed materials), monumental art and sculpture.
In February 1990, the artist immigrated to Jerusalem (Israel). During more than 20 years of the active artistic life, he created hundreds of views, took part in dozens of solo and group exhibitions, including expositions in the most highly estimated halls of Israel and other countries. In his living room at home (Gilo settlement), Boris organized about 50 exhibitions of Israeli, Ukrainian, and Russian artists. During the last years of his life, Boris Lekar was working with “Agripas 12” gallery.
In 1990-2000s, Boris Lekar was describing ancient synagogues of India, Turkey and other countries on behalf of The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. In 2004, the artist received a scholarship from “Cité Internationale des Arts” gallery in Paris, where he was creating and exhibiting his works in 2004-2005.
Boris Lekar is a PhD in Architecture (Kyiv, 1963). He is a laureate of Mordechai Narkiss Prize for Development of Jewish Art (1997), Ministry of Immigrant Absorption prize (1998), Ish-Shalom prize (Jerusalem, 2001), Julia Edelstein prize, and the award “Israeli Painter of 2004”. His artistic works are preserved in many private collections all around the world: in Israel, Ukraine, the USA, Japan, France, – as well as in the collection of the Museum of Israel.
Boris Lekar died on October 30th, 2010 in Jerusalem.
