The wonderful painting by Liuba Rapoport, at once psychologized in the style of Rembrandt and keenly expressive like a Soutine, that could come only from a brush unencumbered by self-interest and shallow pragmatism. As Liuba herself would have said, under such conditions the soul touches “the one whom you do not see, but feel.”
