Biography of Liuba Rapoport

Liuba Rapoport (January 10th, 1953, Kyiv) is a painter and graphic artist who comes from a family of artists including Boris Rapoport and Anna Faynerman. She studied at the KyivArtSchool named after Taras Shevchenko (1964-1970).

Liuba has worked as a painter (still-life, portrait and landscape) and graphic artist since the 1970s. She has actively participatedin group exhibitions since the mid-1970s, and her first solo exhibition was held in 1983. LiubaRapoport has been a member of the Union of Artists of Ukraine since 1985. During the 1990s and 2000s, the artist worked on her “Twain” and “Nude” series, and in 2010, on her “Trees” series.

From 1973 to 2001,LiubaRapoport was a graphic artist-restorer at the National Research and Restoration Center of Ukraine. Among the paintings Liuba worked with were works by I. Aivazovsky, A. Benois, KarlBriullov, V. Vereshchagin, M. Voloshin, I. Repin, K. Somov, P. Fedotov and others. In 1995 she was awarded the title of top-qualification restorer.

Since the late 1990s, the artist’s works have been displayedinboth solo and “family” exhibitions. In 2002, the National Art Museum of Ukraine held the exhibition “Versions of Being,” prepared by LiubaRapoportjointly with her mother, Anna Faynerman.In 2009, Liuba’ssolo exhibition “Unknown Object” was held, while in the meantime her album “Liuba Rapoport. Painting. Text. Drawing” was printed (Kyiv, VH[studio], 2009. – 252 p.). In 2013, her solo exhibition “Game in graphics art” was displayed in Kyiv’s MaisterniaGallery. In 2014, paintings by Boris Rapoport, Anna Faynerman, and LiubaRapoportwere presentedin the family exhibition “Family Ties” in the Museum of Modern Art of Ukraine.

Liuba Rapoport lives and works in Kyiv. Her works are stored in the Directorate of Exhibitions of the Ministry of Culture and the Union of Artists of Ukraine, the National Art Museum of Ukraine, the Museum of Russian Art (Kyiv), the Museum of Modern Art of Ukraine, and other museums and private collections in Ukraine and other countries..
